Our Pastor and His Wife
Reverend Benjamin Lang & Nadine Lang
Pastor, Leader, Shepherd, and Teacher
Pastor Benjamin
Lang--a native of Mobile,
Alabama-- is the 9th of 11
children born to the late Rev. & Mrs. Eural C. (Mary Ida) Lang, Sr.
Because
of his love for the Lord, he received salvation in Christ at an early age and
was baptized at age 10 in his family church, Mt Zion Baptist Church under the
leadership of Rev. S.M. McCree. He is a
product of the Mobile County School System and is a graduate from Toulminville High School
(now LeFlore) and decided as a youth to follow one of his older brothers to Dillard University
in New Orleans, LA.
In May 1980 Pastor Lang graduated as an honor
student from Dillard
University with a Bachelor
of Science Degree in Chemistry. While at
the university, Pastor Lang was the Bible Study leader and accepted his calling
to preach the gospel in his dormitory room. Immediately following his college
graduation, he preached his first public sermon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church
and at the end of that summer began attending the New Orleans Theological
Seminary. While a student there, he was one
of only three seminarians (per year) privileged to preach at the Seminary’s chapel
worship services in his 2nd and 3rd year. In 1983 Pastor
Lang earned his Masters of Divinity degree from the seminary. On the day of his
graduation, Beacon Light Baptist
Church in New Orleans held a reception for him. At that reception, he gave his degree to his fiancée
and announced their upcoming wedding. On
February 25, 1984, he married the love of his life, the former Nadine Lemons of
Hot Springs, Arkansas.
In 1987 Pastor Lang was ordained into the Preaching
Ministry at Jackson Memorial
Baptist Church
under the leadership of Rev. Gregory A. Sutton.
He and his wife were active Sunday School teachers there and served
faithfully until 1994.
From 1984 until 1996, Pastor Lang served as a Campus Minister with the GA Baptist Convention on the
following college campuses: The Atlanta University Center, Georgia Tech, and Georgia State University.
Since 1998 he also has been a Church
Planting Consultant for the Georgia Baptist Convention.
In the spring of 1994, Pastor and Mrs. Lang became
the first official members of what became known as Cornerstone Baptist
Church. Several weeks
later, he was asked by the sponsoring churches of this new church (primarily
Pastor Louie Winstead of Lithia
Heights Baptist
Church) to remain as the interim-pastor/church planter. He served in that position for over 2
years.
In
August 1996, Pastor Lang became full-time Pastor of Cornerstone Baptist
Church. As our pastor/shepherd/leader, he
encourages us to be “A Community Church with
a Global Vision.” He demonstrates
this belief through his involvement in the community in various capacities (as
a supporter of the GED Program at West Central Technical College; a board
member of The Pregnancy Resource Center in Douglasville; a mentor in the
Douglas County School System; the faith representative on the board of Douglas Community
Organizing Resources for Excellence (C.O.R.E.), and currently serves as the
moderator of the West Metro Baptist Association).
Pastor
Lang, a Christ follower at home and in his community, looks forward to the day
when he will hear the Lord Jesus say, “Well done, thou good and faithful,
servant”. However, until that day, He lives out his
personal mission statement, “To know Christ and to make Him known to others.”
